[Item #2225] Mr. Natural No. 1. Robert Crumb.

Mr. Natural No. 1

San Francisco, CA: Apex Novelties/San Francisco Comic Book Company, 1971. Third Printing. Stapled Wrappers. The first issue of the classic underground comic entirely devoted to one of Robert Crumb's most memorable creations- Mr. Natural. With many misadventures of the most outrageous & politically incorrect variety; & a fascinating three-page story, illustrated but largely in text, of "The Origins of Mr. Natural." Originally published in August 1970, this is the third printing of 1971 as established by the Talmudic authorities. It has nearly every point of the first printing, including a fifty-cent cover price, wording of publishing information on inner front cover ("Printed by Apex Novelties and published by the San Francisco Comic Book Company...") etc.; distinguished as third printing by lack of fading esp. at lower left corner of front cover, 6 & 1/3" width of back cover artwork. A highlight of the golden age of countercultural comix, in its third-rarest form, still close to original printing. In relatively fine condition, approximately equivalent to at least a 6.0 grade per Fogel's, CGC, etc.: Very mild rubbing, creasing & discoloration of front & back covers; moderate browning of covers esp. white margins of back cover; one approx. 1/8" mostly closed vertical tear near bottom of spine. Interior fine except for browning of just-above-newspaper quality pages esp. margins & edges effecting inner front & back covers; but pages not brittle & with barely any acidic scent. Fine.
