[Item #2242] Concerning Poetry, Volume 1, Number 2, Fall 1968. Allen Ginsberg, Louis Ginsberg.

Concerning Poetry, Volume 1, Number 2, Fall 1968

Bellingham, WA: Western Washington State College, 1968. First Printing. Softcover. This second number of the venerable literary journal, published by Western Washington State College under the sponsorship of its Department of English, features contributions of one poem each by Allen Ginsberg & his father, Louis Ginsberg. Allen Ginsberg's poem is untitled, with the first line "O Future bards." This poem was later reprinted in the major anthology, Allen Ginsberg: Collected Poems 1947-1980 (1985) with the title "A Prophecy." The elder Ginsberg's poem is entitled "An Old Love." A rare juxtaposing of the son & father's poems, which exemplify their respective styles. The father was of course a much more conventional poet compared with his groundbreaking son who co-founded the Beat Generation. This issue also features poems by Nancy S. Prichard, Chaim Mendelson & many others; & a section of reviews. A very rare appearance by Allen Ginsberg & his father on opposite pages, of great interest to the Ginsberg collector. In fine condition with only mild rubbing, spotting, sunning & browning to front, back covers & esp. spine; one mild approx. 4" crease at lower left corner of blank back cover extending through last six page leaves; one tiny spot at lower side edge of text block. Interior very fine except for crease extensions noted above; much tinier, faint crease-bumps at upper corners of most page leaves. Fine. [Item #2242]
