Waltzing in the Submarine

Berkeley, CA: Beatitude Press, 2011. First Printing. Stapled Wrappers. Signed by H.D. Moe to acclaimed underground printer-publisher Charles Plymell. "Moe's 'Waltzing in the Submarine furthers his long-established zippy breaking of boundaries. These poems show a democratic Whitman broadened across subatomic particle physics and the amped-up scrambling of encoded expectation. This is a victory of the imagination." (Baby Beat poet Roderick Iverson, from back cover). David Moe was part of the Second San Francisco Renaissance as chronicled in Third Mind Books debut publication, "Starting from San Francisco: Thomas Rain Crowe in Conversation with Third Mind Books." (Ann Arbor, MI: Third Mind Books, 2018). According to Crowe, Moe was about ten years older than most of the "Beatitude cadre" (as Jack Hirschman used to refer to Thomas and his generation) and "had gotten a true to life jump-start on the rest of us Babies (Baby Beats)," through "hanging with Kerouac, Cassady and that wild bunch." Legendary literary outlaw Charles Plymell has fondly written about Moe's appearances at the house on Gough St. in San Francisco, corroborating Crowe's claims. Fittingly, this copy is signed by David Moe to Charles Plymell in red pen ink. Signature reads: "To Charlie / wonderful poet / & long / friend -- / HD // --love always / fort masa (sic) / 1 (sic) / May / 22 / 2011." Book in very fine condition with only slightest shelf-wear and a light stain near rightmost side of back cover at center-middle. Very Fine. [Item #3093]
