Two Chapbooks & Four Pamphlets

Venice, CA: Fred and Barney Press, 1979-1980. First Editions. Stapled Wrappers; Folded Sheets. A collection of six productions by Jack Skelley, an enigmatic poet & editor (Barney: The Modern Stone-Age Magazine) who was active in Venice, California during the late 1970s through early 1980s. Consisting of: (1) Untitled pamphlet, single folded-in-half sheet with date of "10/79" on back cover, with four poems including "Alphonso's Dancing." (2) "Plastic Surgery and Your Skin," single folded-in-half sheet pamphlet with date of "11/79" on second inner page, with four prose-poems including "Only Deep Skin." (3) "Everything for Baby," single folded-in-half sheet pamphlet with date of "1/80" on second inner page, with three poems including the title work. (4) "Juvenile Loitering," single folded-in-thirds sheet pamphlet with date of "2/80" on third inner page, with title prose-poem interspersed with illustrations. (5) Untitled chapbook with three prose poems including "TV Blooper Spotter," with the date "4/80" below a photograph of Skelley (interestingly, he rather resembles Fred Flintstone, who along with his sidekick cartoon character Barney Rubble are apparently honored in the name of his self-published imprint). (6) "Wammo Amnesia," chapbook with date of "7/80" on page 5, with five poems including "Hollow Inside." A most interesting & collectible bundle from an obscure, good-humored member of the later Mimeo Revolution, whose above-referenced magazine included contributions by himself, Tom Clark, Kenward Elmslie, Ron Padgett, Robert Peters et al. (1)-(4) pamphlets all in very fine condition, with only mild browning at thin edges & corners. (5) in fine condition with only mild browning at thin edges of front, back wrappers & stapled spine; one tiny, angled closed tear with a few faint, short creases emanating therefrom at central top edge of front wrapper. (6) in fine condition with only mild browning at & near edges of front, back wrappers & stapled spine; faint creasing along same; inner staples just beginning to rust with tiny amount of bleeding at central interior; one light vertical fold-crease across entire chapbook. Interior fine except for creases & rust-bleeding noted above. Very Fine; Fine. [Item #3120]
