Friedman features the final interview with the legendary French Existentialist writer-philosopher Albert Camus. As noted, "The sixteen questions comprising the interview were sent to Camus in August 1959. Camus' reply, dated December 20, 1959, was received here on December 26, two weeks before his death (January 4, 1960); it is reproduced in full below. The interview, arranged in question-answer sequence, follows." (pg. 27) With reproductions of correspondence between interview conductor Robert Spector & Camus; Camus' holographic numbered responses to questions in French; Spector's' questions & Camus' answers translated into English by Yvette Gindine. Also in this issue is a poem by the acclaimed, long Michigan-based Diane Wakoski, "This is Unreal, Thank God." Just below the poem, Wakoski has hand-signed her name with a characteristic vertical doodle to the right of her signature (pg. 20). With other contributions of fiction & poetry, & two reviews of Lawrence Lipton's famous, then just-published study of the Beat Generation, The New Barbarians, by the great Beat-&-Beyond novelist John Clellon Holmes & David Ray, a former editor of The Chicago Review. In good-to-near-fine condition with mild rubbing & scratching to front cover; more significantly to spine & esp. back cover; mild-to-moderate wear, creases & bumps at all edges & corners; mild browning & rubbing to edges of text block. Interior in fine condition with only very light browning at blank margins of page leaves; tiny bumps at corners of a few of same; very short creases with closed tears at side edges of a few of same; staples beginning to rust with no visible bleeding, small closed tears around lower of two staples to first page leaf.
