"Falling in love with a mustache/ is like saying/ you can fall in love with/ the way a man polishes his shoes" (First stanza, "Uneasy Rider" by Diane Wakoski) This number of the chapbook-format poetry journal, edited & with a contribution by E.V. Griffith, features two poems by Diane Wakoski, the acclaimed & prolific poet who has long resided in Michigan. Both are from a then-work-in-progress collection entitled The Motorcycle Betrayal Poems, which was published the following year (1971). Next to the title of the first poem, "Uneasy Rider," on the first page of the issue, Wakoski has hand-signed her name with characteristic series of vertical doodles. Also contributions by esteemed poets David Ignatow, Robert Peters & many others. As noted on inner front cover/ copyright page, this issue is the third since the series was revived, the first nine issues having been published during 1957-1961. As noted in inner back cover, this is "A death issue. The (front) cover illustration, "Burning The Plague Spreaders", is from an old woodcut by an unknown artist." A most desirable rarity among the myriad little poetry publications at the end of their 1960s heyday, especially for the Wakoski collector. In fine condition with only mild rubbing, occasional spotting & browning esp. at edges & margins of front, back covers & stapled spine; very light wear & a few tiny bumps & faint creases at edges & corners of same; mild browning & spotting at edges of text block. Interior very fine with only tiny bumps at corners of a few page leaves. Fine. [Item #3267]
