University of Tampa Poetry Review, No. 3, 1964

Tampa, FL: University of Tampa, 1964. First Printing. Stapled Sheets in Stapled Wrappers. Signed by Diane Wakoski at her contribution. This early, very rare number in the series of exemplary 1960s-era "Mimeo Revolution" literary journals published at the University of Tampa features a poem by Diane Wakoski, the now-Elder Statesperson of Poetry who has long resided in Michigan, "Belly Dancer." Just to the right of the last stanza, Wakoski has hand-signed her name with characteristic series of vertical doodles. Also in this issue are contributions by the cult-acclaimed poet & publisher Kirby Congdon; renowned Beat-&/or-Beyond poets David Meltzer & Margaret Randall; the venerable ethno-poetics pioneer Jerome Rothenberg; & many more. With bold illustration by Jeff Dunn on front wrapper, which interestingly falls short of interior at right edge, revealing last names of all contributors. Edited by Paul Babikow, Duane Locke & Morris Newton. A scarce, very collectible literary relic of special importance to Wakoski devotees. In relatively good-to-near-fine condition for such a fragile, vintage item: Mild-to-significant rubbing, staining, creasing to illustrated front, blank back covers & especially stapled spine, which is loose at top of two staples; mild wear & a few tiny bumps, creases & mostly closed tears at thin edges & corners of same; moderate browning & rubbing to edges of text block. Interior in generally near-fine condition with small bumps & a few tiny chips at corners & edges of page leaves; very light browning & faint waving of same esp. part of first page exposed from front cover as noted above. Good- Near Fine. [Item #3275]
