Hand-numbered & signed with holograph poem by Robert Peters, signed & with original etching by Carol Yeh; additionally inscribed & signed by Robert Peters to James Perrizo. "A series of poems adapted from Nathaniel Hawthorne's American Notebooks, The Wayside Edition of Hawthorne's Works (Boston, 1891), XVII and XVIII, with additions from the version expanded and edited by Claude M. Simpson (Columbus, 1973)." (from editor's note/ acknowledgments) In this magnificent production, the above-noted poems of the great American canonical author Nathaniel Hawthorne (1804-1864) are presented with exquisite etchings by acclaimed artist Carol Yeh. Compiled & edited by Robert Peters (1924-2014), the brilliant & innovative American poet, playwright, critic & scholar whose original specialty was Victorian-era literature, its key & sometimes more obscure figures. Prior to & parallel with his cutting-edge poetry, plays & critical works, Peters published scholarly editions such as this. One of 26 copies hand-numbered, signed with holograph poem by Peters, signed by Yeh, & with an original hand-titled, signed & dated etching by Yeh; this is copy No. 17/50(26). Additionally, on the title page, Peters has hand-inscribed & signed: "For Jim Perrizo/ (illegible word)/ (signed) Robert Peters/ June(?) 17, 1985/ doodle-flourish." James Perrizo (1944-2006) was a major Beat-&-Beyond collector & scholar who befriended & extensively corresponded with Peters. Among the rarest & most beautiful Peters-related volumes. In very fine condition with only lightest, barely discernible spotting to edges of text block; otherwise substantially mint inside & out including loose, protected etching. Very Fine. [Item #3276]
