Ann Arbor, MI: OtherWind Press, Inc., 1988. First Printing. Softcover; Flexible Record Sheet. Signed by Clayton Eshleman. This number of the noted literary journal published during the 1980s-90s here in Ann Arbor, Michigan, edited by Pat Smith & Marla Huber Smith, features an excerpt of a prose-poem dream-diary, "Our Journey Around the Drowned City of Is," by Clayton Eshleman. By this time (1988), Eshleman resided & taught in Ypsilanti, right next to Ann Arbor, where he still resides, our good friend & mentor who continues adding to his esteemed, award-winning oeuvre. On the contents page, Eshleman has hand-signed his name next to his reference. Also in this issue are contributions of poetry by contributing editor David C. D. Gansz; Deep Image pioneer Robert Kelly; Fluxus- chance operations innovator Jackson Mac Low (appropriate homages to John Cage & Kurt Schwitters); the venerable poet-translator-critic Nathaniel Tarn, & more. Two Beat-&-Beyond countercultural icons, Ed(ward) Sanders & John Sinclair, are featured on a "soundsheet" flexible record sheet included in this issue, attached between inner front cover & contents page, never removed at perforation & therefore never played. Side 1 contains "Danae Adrift Upon the Sea" a studio-recorded spoken word performance with musical accompaniment by Sanders & the ancient Greek poet Semonides of Ceus; side 2 contains "Decoration Day" from "Fattening Frogs for Snakes: Delta Blues Suite" by Sinclair, also a spoken word performance with musical accompaniment, recorded live. With front & back cover art by Gail Schneider; brief fine-printed notes on contributors. A very rich issue with many disparate luminaries between its covers, especially collectible with Eshleman's signature & the still-attached recording. In very fine condition with only very light rubbing-browning esp. near edges of front, back covers & spine; lightest wear & a few tiny bumps & light, faint creases at edges & corners of same; one short, light arc-line of red-purple surrounding upper left corner of front cover; tiny amount of rubbing & occasional, barely discernable spotting to edges of text block. Interior very fine with only tiny bumps at corners of a few page leaves. Flexible "Soundsheet," attached as noted above, appears to be pristine. Very Fine. [Item #3300]
