This number of the collectible literary journal, published here in Ann Arbor during the 1980s-90s, edited by Pat Smith & Marla Huber Smith, features "A Sequence," a poem by Cid Corman dedicated to the editors "Pat & Marla." Corman (1924-2004), the esteemed poet, editor & publisher, is most famous for his several series of the legendary Origin magazine from the 1950s through 1980s. Among his many illustrious contributors & proteges published in Origin was Clayton Eshleman, the great American poet, translator & educator who resides near us, our friend & mentor. Eshleman contributes a poem here, "Les Eyzies Nights," from his then soon-to-be-published, now long-acclaimed collection, Hotel Cro-Magnon. On the first contents page, next to his reference, Eshleman has hand-written his signature. Also in this issue are contributions by Deep Image founder-master Robert Kelly; counterculture icon- marijuana martyr John Sinclair & many others. Attached between inner front cover & first contents page, therefore never played, is a "Soundsheet" flexible record sheet. Side 1 contains a reading of poems, partly with musical accompaniment, by Ann Waldman, the venerable NYC Beat-&-Beyond prolific poet & co-founder of several key programs-institutions there & in Boulder, Colorado. Side 2 contains a reading with musical accompaniment by Sadiq muhammad, a noted Detroit musician & poet. With photo-collage artwork by Carl Schurer depicting scenes of Detroit & Greensboro, North Carolina along front cover, spine & back cover; notes on contributors. A very desirable & prestigious issue in this honored series, especially rare with Eshleman's signature & attached recording. In very fine condition with only lightest rubbing & scratching to front, back covers & spine; very mild wear & a few tiny bumps, faint creases at edges & corners of same. Interior very fine with only tiny bumps at corners of a few page leaves; faint horizontal creases just below upper edges of a few of same. Flexible record sheet is still attached at perforation as noted above & appears to be pristine. Very Fine. [Item #3304]
