Ann Arbor, MI: Jewel Heart; Agenda Publications, 1991; 1997; 1998. First Printings. Folded Newspaper; Single Sheets. Three scarce & significant pieces of Allen Ginsberg Ephemera: (1) Flyer announcing a live appearance/reading by Ginsberg at University of Michigan's Rackham Auditorium in Ann Arbor on Friday, March 8, 1991, presented by Jewel Heart, the local Buddhist organization which he supported & visited. With photo of Ginsberg, vertical list of his major works to that date at left margin, & several references to Shaman Drum Bookshop, the iconic & sadly long-gone institution of our late beloved friend & mentor Karl Pohrt. Ginsberg, as here, often appeared at SD to autograph his works earlier during the days of his readings, where this writer memorably encountered him. (2) The May, 1997 issue of Agenda: Ann Arbor's Alternative Newsmonthly, with a tribute to Ginsberg (who had died the previous month) featuring articles by acclaimed local writer, radio personality & performer Arwulf Arwulf; & Kathleen Laritz, a leader of Jewel Heart. With many other articles, contemporary local events & ads, etc. (3) flyer announcing "Annual Allen Ginsberg Memorial Concert: Benefit Concert for Jewel Heart" at UM's Hill Auditorium on Friday, October 2, 1998. With images of headline performers Philip Glass & Patti Smith; references to a poetry contest, a discussion about Tibetan Buddhism by Gelek Rinpoche held two days later (October 4) etc. Three desirable, collectible items of Ginsberg ephemera, one from his lifetime & two in memorial tribute to the Founding Father of the Beat Generation. From the collection of Ken & the late Ann Mikolowski, whose legendary Alternative Press published works by Ginsberg & many other key Beat-&-Beyond figures, & who were personal friends of Ginsberg. All in fine-to-very-fine condition: (1) with only short, faint crease-bumps at lower corners; two miniscule pin-holes with partial circles of indents near upper corners. (2) with only single short closed, vertical tears at lower right blank margin of two leaves (pgs. 7-8, 9-10). It should be noted that the front-rear cover leaf is of a lighter, thicker paper stock than interior of regular newspaper-quality stock, but with no discernable browning. (3) with only some short, faint creases & bumps at/ near edges & corners, very slightly effecting top band of printing. Fine-Very Fine. [Item #3328]
