This second number of the literary journal edited by Gordon Lish (who would later become famous, & controversial, as Raymond Carver's editor) features a section of poems by Denise Levertov, Diane Wakoski & other acclaimed poets. At her contribution ("Incommunicado"), Wakoski has hand-written her signature with characteristic series of vertical doodles just below her printed name near top of pg. 180. Also an interview with George P. Elliott conducted by Lish; diary excerpts by Theodore enslin; several letters by James T. Farrell, the prolific American writer best known for his trilogy of Studs Lonigan novels; & much more. With reproductions of four artworks by Chris Roberts throughout the issue, drawing vignettes throughout & main logo by Carla Lopez, notes on contributors (back cover), etc. Softcover in sewn binding. A rare & rich issue in this venerable series whose subtitle-motto is "A Garden to Grow the World Again," of special interest to the Wakoski collector. In fine condition with only mild rubbing & a bit of light, faint creasing to front, back covers & esp. spine; mild wear & a few tiny bumps & very short, closed tears at edges & corners of same; one tiny ink marking near upper left corner of front cover; two tiny pin-holes near middle bottom edge of same; mild rubbing & spotting at edges of text block; small stamp with "CMA" inside triangle near spine at upper edge of text block. Interior very fine on thick paper stock with only tiny bumps & creases at corners of page leaves; tiny dimples without paper penetration at & near bottom of first few of same. Fine. [Item #3358]
