Cherry Valley, NY; Madison, WI: Benjamin Harnett; Mica Press, 2017; 2001. First Editions. Softcovers. Inscribed & signed to Charles Plymell by Benjamin Harnett; signed by poet Chuck Miller & publisher-designer Joe Grant. A bundle of two poetry volumes by talented poets, both from the collection of & somewhat relating to Charles Plymell, the great American poet, printer, publisher & Legendary Literary Outlaw: (1) Vegetable: Poems by Benjamin Harnett, a slim, self-published softcover original with poems, notes & acknowledgements. Stated first edition, first printing as indicated by number series on copyright page. Harnett, a native of Cherry Valley, NY where Charles & his wife Pamela Beach Plymell have long resided, has hand-inscribed & signed to them on title page: Dear Charlie-/ (+ Pam)/ Hope this book finds/ you well in Cherry/ Valley and you enjoy/ some of these poems./ All my Best/ (signed) Benjamin Harnett/ squiggle-flourish." (2) Crossing the Kattegat, a larger volume of poems by the venerable poet & educator Chuck Miller, with publisher's notes by co-designer Joe Grant. Miller has hand-written his signature on shorter title page; & Grant has hand-written below his notes: "(signed) Joe Grant/ Lawrence, KS/ 10-30-07." Lawrence was the last home of William S. Burroughs, as all Beat-&-Beyonders know. On back cover are blurbs by distinguished writers including Gerald Nicosia, the great Jack Kerouac critical biographer ("Chuck Miller writes with frightening intensity and almost unlimited profundity about a world gone hopelessly wrong...") & Charles Plymell ("Finally, Crossing the Kattegat, a magnificent book of poetry! I didn't know such great poetry existed anymore. A lot of lines reminded me of the best that Kerouac or Ginsberg stumbled upon..."). Also a softcover original, first edition, presumed first printing, published as "Librarian's Choice Series #1." Two excellent if lesser-known poetry collectibles, with significant association & provenance. (1) in very fine condition with only tiny bumps at corners of front, back covers & lower corners of page leaves; otherwise substantially mint inside & out. (2) also in very fine condition with only very light rubbing & sparse, faint scratching to front, back covers & spine; mild spotting at top edge of text block. Interior very fine with only tiny bumps at upper corners of some page leaves. Very Fine. [Item #3361]
