Snaketrain / Freightrain: A Poem in Four Parts

Berkeley, CA: Quelquefois Press, 1991. Limited First Edition. Large Chapbook in Boards. Hand-numbered & signed by Joe Napora; additionally inscribed & signed to Thomas rain Crowe. A stirring poem in four sections named after the titles of playing cards by Joe Napora, the impassioned & prolific American poet, editor, publisher & anti-establishment activist. Colophon is subtitled "January 15, 1991/ NO WAR IN THE GULF!/ May we learn to accommodate Peace!" & notes: "One year and six months in the works, this book speaks to the ears of the conscience." As also noted in colophon, this is one of 150 copies, of which 110 were for sale. This is hand-numbered copy No. 34/150, boldly signed by the poet. Also, on mostly blank front endpaper, Napora has hand-written lightly in pencil: "For Thomas/ for doing the real work/ (small drawing) Love/ (signed) Joe." "Thomas" is Thomas Rain Crowe, the acclaimed poet & publisher who was at the center of the Baby Beat Generation/ Second San Francisco Renaissance during the 1970s (see our publication Starting from San Francisco, item No. 3071, Deluxe Edition No. 3074) & is a kindred literary spirit of Napora. We obtained this from the library of our good friend & mentor Crowe himself. An exceptionally exquisite hand-crafted production in boards with thick, curve-edged leaves. A special accordian-folded smaller production entitled "Notes / Two" is inserted in a pocket affixed to a double leaf following the poem. A most rare & desirable Napora rarity with exceptional association & provenance. In very fine condition, substantially mint inside & out. Very Fine. [Item #3525]
