ISBN: 0912516011
Bolinas, CA: Grey Fox Press, 1972. First edition. Softcover. A volume of early poetry by Allen Ginsberg, with nascent references to the Beat phenomenon that would explode with the reading & publication of Howl several years after they were first written. This is the earliest compilation of works that are now part of later, much larger complete Ginsberg anthologies. Includes Pull My Daisy, later sung in the seminal Beat short film of 1959 by Robert Frank, & In Memoriam: William Cannestra 1922-1950, in tribute to a notorious member of the early Beat circle who died gruesomely in a reckless moving subway stunt. With a haunting double exposure photo of a very young Ginsberg on the front cover. This copy, a stated first edition, has a partial imprint stamp on the first, blank page that indicates it is not for sale & may have been an "unauthorized" production. The roughly uncut top edge & covers shows that it may not have quite been finished, since all other edges are trimmed. An extremely rare version of this collectible item, in fine condition with moderate wear to covers & roughly uncut top edges as noted, which extend into upper portions of some pages without effecting any text, interior otherwise very fine. Fine. [Item #1579]
