Madison, WI: The University of Wisconsin Press, 1985. First Printing. Softcover. This Spring 1985 number of the academic literary journal published at the University of Wisconsin features a scholarly article with footnotes on the work of William S. Burroughs by Robin Lyndenberg, "Notes from the Orifice: Language and the Body in William Burroughs." Two years later, Lyndenberg's full book-length critical study, World Cultures: Radical Theory and Practice in William S. Burroughs' Fiction, was published. This article has almost the same title as a chapter of the book, & so is a fragmentary work-in-progress leading to the very important full work, well-known to WSB scholars. This issue also contains articles on the works of Don DeLillo, D.H. Lawrence, Cynthia Ozick & others; reviews. A good collectors' companion along with the first hardcover edition of the ultimate work (item #1061), or a significant WSB-related rarity by itself. In very fine condition with only very mild rubbing to front, back covers, spine & esp. spine edges, tiny bumps at corners, approx. 1/2" very thin chip at upper left edge of front cover. Interior mint except for tiny bump-crease at upper right corners of pages from front through about pg. 27. Very Fine. [Item #1884]
