ISBN: 0802130755
New York, NY: Grove Press, Inc., 1984. First American Edition, Second Printing. Softcover. The first American edition of this short work by Kathy Acker, first published earlier the same year in the UK. Apparently written six years earlier, as copyrighted 1978. A trade-format softcover original in the Evergreen Book series published by the legendary Grove Press. This is the second printing of the stated First Evergreen Edition. William S. Burroughs, by whom Acker was deeply influenced, described her as "A post-modern Colette with echoes of Cleland's Fanny Hill."(quoted on back cover of this edition). With text in different fonts & formats, many strange & explicit illustrations presumably by the author. The kind of exemplary work that "earned her varying labels, from post-punk porn to post-punk feminism. Her narratives combine detailed eroticism with detailed politics and what she calls "pop content"- a montage of conversation, description, conjecture, moments snatched from history and from literature."(from back cover) With front cover illustration by Sue Coe. In very fine condition with only very minor rubbing to dark front, back covers & spine, very slight creasing, chipping & bumping to edges & corners of same, a few tiny scratches & very mild browning of edges. Interior very fine with only light browning to edges of pages, wrinkling & very tiny spotting to first few leaves. Very Fine. [Item #1901]
