Poetry Reading Announcement Broadside

n/p: Unknown, Circa 1981. First Printing. Single Sheet. Signed & dated with citation by Clayton Eshleman to James Perrizo. A broadside (11"x17") announcing a reading by acclaimed poet-editor-educator Clayton Eshleman on Tuesday, April 28 of an unknown year which we believe is most likely 1981: Hades in Manganese, the latest of two works mentioned, was originally published that year, & that date was a Tuesday during that year. The event at which Eshleman participated is named "the Le Prade Markham Poetry Reading," referring presumably to the California poets Ruth Le Prade (1894-1969) & Edwin Markham (1852-1940). Eshleman resided in California & was teaching at the California Institute of Technology (Cal Tech) during this period, & the reading may have taken place there or at another University in that state. At the bottom edge, Eshleman has hand-written: "For Jim. From Clayton/on Carly's birthday/but what year?/1988" Jim is the late collector & Beat Generation scholar James Perrizo, who was an acquaintance of Eshleman & a major collector of his works. Caryl is Eshleman's wife. By 1988, Eshleman was living in Michigan (where he still resides) & teaching at Eastern Michigan University in Ypsilanti. Perrizo was born & died in California, but lived for many years in Michigan, including 1988. A bold production with a very punk aesthetic, & a rare Eshleman signed collectible with significant association. In very fine condition with only very tiny bumps at top edge & corners; one short stain mostly over the lower portion of the letter "E" in "Eshleman" with minor effect thereof. Item is currently mounted on stiff board, in protective wrap, will be shipped rolled in tube. Very Fine. [Item #2070]
