Burroughs' mid-career work based on the transcribed words spoken by the American gangster Dutch Schultz on his deathbed in 1935, after being ambushed & shot along with his associates. Written as the script of a prospective film treatment, it was first published in a limited edition in the UK in 1970. This edition precedes the first USA edition, published in 1975. Translation by Mary Beach & her husband, Claude Pelieu, Parisian artists, writers & publishers associated with WSB, Allen Ginsberg & many others. They were also the mother & stepfather of Pamela Beach Plymell, who is also an important literary figure along with her husband, Charles Plymell. First edition thus, first printing, produced in June of 1972 as noted in publisher's information at the end of the volume. Softcover in sewn binding. In very fine condition with only very light rubbing & a few faint creases of laminated front, back covers & spine; one tiny chip at upper right edge of back cover near spine; very light soiling, scratching & spotting to edges of text block.
