Skull Comics No. 3

Berkeley, CA: Gary Arlington/Last Gasp, 1971. First Printing. Stapled Wrappers. The third number in the series of countercultural-psychedelic interpretations of the 1950s EC horror comics of the 1950s. Featuring cover art by Spain Rodriguez; "Tales of the Leather Nun" written & illustrated by Dave Sheridan; "Horrible Harvey's House!" by Richard "Gore" Corbin; & the collaborative "Cleanup Crew" by Greg Irons & Tom Veitch, an off-the-meter horrific finale even to the standards of this series- "Skull Comix are tasteless garbage and diamonds in the night..." as it says on top margin of last panel, inner front cover. This is the first printing of 1971, as established by scholarly authorities, indicated by a small dark red pentagon with registration mark at mid-edge of back cover, spine & just onto left edge of front cover; blue star on hand of hooded figure in illustration on front cover. An essential collectible in this legendary series, in its rarest form, for the adult comix connoisseur. In relatively fine condition, approximately equivalent to a 6.0 grade per Fogel's, CGC, etc.: Mild rubbing, creasing & spotting to front, back covers; mild crease along length of spine with several very tiny chips; tiny tear-holes at staple corners. Interior fine except for browning of just-above-newspaper quality pages esp. margins & edges effecting front & back covers; but pages not brittle & with barely any acidic scent. Fine. [Item #2231]
