Tongues of Fallen Angels

ISBN: 0811205290
New York, NY: New Directions Books, 1974. First Softcover Printing. Softcover. A volume of essay-interview-profiles in conversation with leading writers by Selden Rodman (1909-2002), the prolific anthologist, critic & writer. Featuring a chapter on Allen Ginsberg, primary poet of the Beat Generation, based on several visits during the 1960s-1970s, preceded by a page of photographs presumably taken by Rodman of Ginsberg & co. Also includes chapters based on conversations with Jorge Luis Borges, Robert Frost, Ernest Hemingway, Norman Mailer, Gabriel Garcia Marquez, Pablo Neruda & other giants of twentieth century North & South American literature. This is the first softcover edition, published simultaneously with the first hardcover edition by the pioneering New Directions imprint. Interestingly, there is the (faint) seal impressed into front cover; along with stamped declarations on copyright & contents pages; of the Brazillian Embassy on this copy. Which Embassy we cannot determine, this copy appears to have entered its collection on September 21, 1976. An insightful work on & by Ginsberg, & a desirable item in general. In fine condition with only mild rubbing, scratching & soiling to front, back covers & spine; very light wear & tiny bumps to edges & corners of same; light wear & scratching to all edges of text block. Interior very fine except for faint, short wave-creases along side edges of page leaves from about pages 173-216. Fine. [Item #2261]
