A Spirit of Mt. Tamalpais. Michael McClure.

A Spirit of Mt. Tamalpais

San Francisco, CA: The Cranium Press, Circa 1971. First Printing. Single Sheet. A broadside (7&1/4"x10") with the title poem by Michael McClure, a primary poet & playwright of the San Francisco Renaissance, the Beat Generation & beyond. As stated on verso, this is "A poem for Lew Welch by Michael McClure/Printed for Book People/by Jim Mundy & Clifford Burke/at Cranium Press." Lew Welch disappeared, a presumed suicide, in May of 1971; this undated broadside was therefore likely produced later that year, assuming as we do that it is an elegy-memorial for Welch by his contemporary colleague McClure. With a list of plants & creatures in smaller font at left of poem. A very interesting, rare McClure & Welch-related collectible. In very fine condition with only lightest rubbing & creasing to surface & edges; tiny pencil notation of previous seller at upper right corner. Mounted on stiff board, in protective shrinkwrap. Very light dusting of spots & debris on surface of shrinkwrap, not broadside. Very Fine. [Item #2275]
