O My Life! Anne Waldman.

O My Life!

New York, NY: Angel Hair Books, 1969. Limited First Edition. Stapled Sheets. Inscribed, Signed & dated by Anne Waldman. An early work of Anne Waldman, a major poet of the Beat Generation/New York School & beyond. Published by Angel Hair Books, co-founded by Waldman & Lewis Warsh, this is a collection of poems indeed relating to the day-to-day life & musings of the bohemian young poet & her contemporaries during an era of creative literary ferment in NYC. One prose-poem, "The After-Life," is dedicated to Joe Brainard, her friend & the legendary writer flourishing then & there. A mimeographed production with illustrations including identical front & back covers by noted artist George Schneeman (1934-2009). As noted on last colophon/copyright page, this is one of an edition of 500, of which "6 copies hors commerce, numbered A through F, signed by the author and artist, with a special surprise from the author/20 copies numbered 1 through 20 and signed by the author and artist/474 copies in a trade edition." This is among the 474 copies of the trade edition, but Waldman has hand-inscribed, signed & dated in black felt-tip ink on title page: "for Daphne-/Best to you,/(signed) Anne Waldman/July 69." A wonderful Waldman rarity, most exemplary of that time & place in which she was at the center, & greatly enriched by her inscription & signature from the year, perhaps even month, of publication. In relatively very fine condition for an item produced this way, with only very light browning, rubbing & spotting of edges of front & back cover sheets esp. stapled spine edges; very small, light creases at upper corners of front cover; one tiny closed tear at lower right edge of back cover below last staple; staples in early process of rusting. Interior very fine. Very Fine. [Item #2294]
