On the Question of Body Tones. Edward Sanders.

On the Question of Body Tones

n/p: Unknown, Circa 1980. Limited First Edition. Single Sheet. Inscribed & signed by Edward Sanders. A broadside (11"x17") with a poem by Ed Sanders, the Beat-to-Hippie countercultural icon of poetry, publishing & music. This appears to be a translation by Sanders of a work by the ancient Greek poet Sappho- above the English text is a facsimile of handwritten Greek words & phrases, with diagrammatic arrows & lines leading to their English translations. Sanders was educated in classical Greek & has incorporated his knowledge in some works, including The Cutting Prow (Am Here Books, 1981). Interestingly, the very word-diagram noted above, with variations on a few of the English translations, is part of the front cover illustration of The Cutting Prow. There is no reference to date, place or publisher, perhaps it is approximately contemporaneous with TCP. There is a hand-numbered limitation showing that this is No. 50/150; the names of Judy Dreamer & Michael Morgulis who may have designed this (Morgulis may be the noted Buffalo, NY artist); & below his printed name is this handwritten inscription by the poet/translator: "Good job!/(signed) Ed Sanders." It is that indeed, a most beautiful production & a fascinating, obscure rarity in the Sanders canon. In very fine condition with only very slight rubbing esp. at edges & corners of surface; a few short, faint creases along surface; tiny bumps at corners.
