ISBN: 1566890055
Minneapolis, MN: Coffee House Press, 1993. First Edition, Second(?) Printing. Softcover. "Words are used here with awe, dread, submission, humor, cheek, as if they were sacred creatures- pulsating, alive, mocking. As such they are little mirrors..."(from poet's introduction) An epic poem by Anne Waldman, among the primary poets of the later Beat Generation, the New York School & beyond. Published here for the first time as a whole after parts appeared in various journals during the preceding seven years, this is the first part of what eventually was published as a massive trilogy. This is the first edition, with folded four-page errata slip loosely laid in. On the copyright page is the reference "9,8,7,6,5,4,3,2" which usually indicates a second printing, although the presence of the errata slip is of course commonly found in a first printing. In any case, a desirable collectible in the Waldman canon. Large-format softcover in sewn binding. In fine condition with only very light rubbing to glossy front, back covers & spine; mild curling at esp. upper & lower right corners of front cover; tiny bump-creases at upper & lower left corners of back cover; some tiny bumps along upper & lower edges of same; former bookseller's sticker affixed to lower right area of same; one tiny vertical indentation (fingernail?) near mid-right edge of spine. Interior very fine. Fine. [Item #2354]
