ISBN: (ISSN)07354665
Orono, ME: University of Maine at Orono, 1985. First Printing. Stapled Sheets. This special issue of the literary journal published by the University of Maine is entirely devoted to an excerpt (Part II, Chapter 5) of The H.D. Book by Robert Duncan (1919-1988), a major figure in 20th century American letters, associated with the Beats, the San Francisco Renaissance & the Black Mountain School. The full work, a prose study of poets H.D. (Hilda Doolittle), Ezra Pound, D.H. Lawrence, William Carlos Williams & others, was published posthumously. This copy was earlier sold at the fabled, late Serendipity Books store in Berkeley, CA. The original pink description & price slip is included, & we quote from it here: "First separate edition, an offprint. Much on Pound, whom Duncan actually knew, throughout." We have also retained the small pencil notations by this seller at upper right margin of title page. A rare & desirable Duncan collectible, with a significant association. In fine condition (as first described in slip) with only moderate rubbing to edges of front cover; slight bend toward front through entire right edge; otherwise very fine inside & out. Fine.
