Jim & Lucy's House of "K", #1, May 1984 (two copies)

Berkeley & Oakland, CA: The House of "K" 1984. First Printing. Stapled Wrappers. The first number of the short-lived but important mimeo-zine literary journal edited & with contributions by Benjamin Friedlander & Andrew Schelling. Featuring mostly reviews by Friedlander, Schelling, Jean Day & others of contemporary collections by Larry Eigner, Jerome & Diane Rothenberg (as compilers of an anthology), Philip Whalen, Jackson Mac Low & more. With front cover & many interior illustrations of giraffes by Nancy May; a few samples of work by Ted Berrigan (following a memorial essay by Stephen Rodefer) & Mac Low; a tribute to filmmaker Frampton Hollis who had died that year (1984) by Barry Lane, etc. The first of only nine issues of a rare zine that would feature contributions by & about various great writers. We offer two copies as one purchase of this issue, since some flaws in each as described below relate to different parts, so that the two copies together present a complete & acceptable whole: One copy in fine condition until last two page leaves & back cover where there are significant, mostly closed tears at upper edge slightly effecting text; back cover tear with a small hole with missing text of some contributors' names at upper back cover. Other copy does not have the damage to those pages described above, but with large (coffee?!) stains with attendant wrinkles across front cover & first eight page leaves not effecting legibility of text or images; staples in process of rusting; small holes in blank area at mid-spine. Fair/Fair. [Item #2483]
