Ferlinghetti: A Biography. Neeli Cherkovski.

Ferlinghetti: A Biography

Garden City, NY: Doubleday & Company Inc., 1979. First Edition. Hardcover. Released in 1979, "Ferlinghetti: A Biography" was the first published biography of the founder of City Lights Books and accomplished poet and scholar Lawrence Ferlinghetti. Neeli Cherkovski moved to San Francisco in the early 1970s and became a Beat disciple, quickly making friends with Ferlinghetti, Gregory Corso, Allen Ginsberg, Bob Kaufman, Michael McClure and Charles Bukowski to name a prominent few. Cherkovski himself is a prolific and commendable poet and heavyweight scholar, making this cardinal biography of such a monumental figure even more worthwhile. Cherkovski conducted hundreds of hours of personal interviews with the poet to complete the work--a rare occurrence to be afforded by a man so averse to his inclusion in the genre. Great photo of Cherkovski and Ferlinghetti in Cafe Trieste in North Beach on back cover. An indispensable collectible for the Ferlinghetti and Cherkovski devotee. Book in very fine condition with only very slight rubbing and spotting to upper and side edges of text block; profusion of spots to lower text block and cover edges almost certainly as issued; otherwise all but mint inside and out. Dust jacket in very fine condition with only slightest rubbing and browning to edges of front, back cover and spine; one faint crease along most of left edge of back cover; one tiny crease at upper corner of front flap. Very Fine / Very fine. [Item #2545]
