A Nation of Sheep. Lawrence Ferlinghetti.

A Nation of Sheep

San Francisco, CA: Privately Printed by the Author, 1979. First Printing. Broadside. A broadside (8" & 1/2" x 11") reprinting a poem-editorial originally published in the New York Times on May 12, 1979. "A Nation of Sheep" is a litany on the molding of the continent resultant from the atomic burst of money-grabbing entrepreneurial activity that gave birth to super industry America. Yet another of Lawrence Ferlinghetti's time-tested classics, the poem is a capstone of his output in the 1970s, a decade in which he was still at the unabridged height of his powers. A prime example of a canonical rarity in the Ferlinghetti oeuvre. With second printings identified by a single 11.0 cm rule at the base of pp. 2-3 and the third printing stated, we presume this to be the true first printing published in a scarce impression of 50 copies. (Morgan A47) An exceptionally rare Ferlinghetti broadside. In very fine condition with crease across middle (vertical on front cover side, horizontal on verso with text); very mild browning at edges. Very Fine. [Item #2549]
