The first number of a literary journal edited by Ken Kesey, the legendary novelist whose Merry Prankster "Further" exploits with Neal Cassady & co. were a bridge from the Beat Generation to the 1960s psychedelic counterculture. Sub-titled "Old In The Streets" & featuring Kesey's wacky short story in the form of titled vignettes, "the thrice-thrown tranny man or orgy at palo alto high school," along with the first installment of his "Seven Prayers by Grandma Whittier." Also contributions by Ken Babbs, Kesey's Prankster partner (the short story "A.C."); acclaimed poet & novelist Wendell Berry (the short story "Exile"); Prankster & Yippie co-founder Paul Krassner (the short story-script "Gum Job") & many more. This is the stated second printing (5000 copies) of March 1977, preceded by the first printing (also 5000 copies) of January 1974. Still scarce & desirable among Kesey-related collectibles. In very fine condition with only very mild rubbing esp. at & near spine; short, faint creases along edges & corners of front, back cover & spine esp. at upper right corner of front cover; short, closed tear near bottom of spine.
