Spit in the Ocean #2

Pleasant Hill, OR: Intrepid Trips Information Service, 1976. First Printing. Softcover. The second number of a literary journal edited by Ken Kesey, the fabled novelist whose Merry Prankster exploits on the "Further" bus with Neal Cassady & co. were a critical link from the Beat Generation to the psychedelic counterculture of the 1960s & beyond. In this issue, sub-titled "Getting There From Here!," Kesey thinly disguises himself under the name of "my" & makes several contributions including the short essay "Doing It" & the second installment of his "Seven Prayers by Grandma Whittier." Also the short story "Andy Brady" by prankster cohort & Yippie co-founder Ken Babbs; another short story, "Sherman," by feminist icon Kate Millett; an excerpt from Hard Times by Studs Terkel, profiling the activist & writer Saul Alinsky; & much more. With brief notes on contributors by "my." A first printing of the "Spring '76" issue of this collectible series of Kesey-related rarities. In very fine condition with only moderate browning & sunning to spine & spine-edges of front, back covers; approx. half-dollar-sized residue (probably from sticker removal) on middle of spine & wrapping around edges of covers; same (milder) over price illustration near upper left corner of front cover; a few tiny spots on blank areas of front, back covers most likely as issued; mild rubbing of lower edge of text block. Interior very fine with only tiny bump-curves at upper edges of first ten or so page leaves. Very Fine. [Item #2578]
