A book of two longer poems (the title poem & "the Staked Woman") by Clayton Eshleman, the acclaimed poet, translator & educator who has long resided in Michigan. As the poet explains in a foreword & endnotes, these poems were inspired by the ancient cave paintings in south-central France. Although this copy is from the first trade edition & not the designated signed edition, it has been hand-signed by Eshleman on the title page, above & slightly into the top margin. A desirable rarity in the Eshleman canon. In very fine condition with only the slightest wear at corners, lower right edge of front cover & spine edges; very mild rubbing esp. at upper spine-edge of front cover.
