Many of these essays first appeared in various periodicals including Evergreen Review, The New York Times & the Village Voice. A classic compilation of "The continuing one-on-one odyssey of a literary gambler"(from front cover). Book in fine condition with only mild rubbing of front, back boards & cloth spine; tiny bump-creases at upper corners of boards; tiny gauges at upper left edge of front board, front upper spine corner & edge, & front lower spine edge; very light rubbing & scratching of upper edge of text block. Interior very fine with only series of short, faint wave-creases across upper corners of many page leaves. Dust jacket in near-fine condition with only mild rubbing to back cover & spine; more pronounced but moderate rubbing to front cover; short crease at upper right back cover near spine corner; mild wear at upper & lower spine edges.
