London, England & New York, NY: Cape Goliard Press in association with Grossman Publishers, 1970. First Softcover Edition. Softcover. Inscribed & signed by Ted Berrigan to Anne & Ken Mikolowski. A collection of poems by the primary New York School/post-Beat poet Ted Berrigan (1934-1983). One very short poem, entitled "Telegram," dedicated to & written shortly after Jack Kerouac's untimely passing, consists entirely of: "bye-bye Jack./See you soon." There are also two poems, "Ann Arbor Elegy" & "Ann Arbor Song," that relate to the city that is the home of Third Mind Books; the well-known "People who Died" & many more haunting, inimitably Berriganian works. On front cover & interspersed throughout are illustrations by the noted artist George Schneeman (1934-2009). First softcover edition, a collaboration between British & USA publishers & printed in Great Britain, issued simultaneously with a hardcover edition. This copy is inscribed & signed by Berrigan on third front blank endpaper: "For Ken &/Anne/in Detroit-/Oct 1972/(signed) Ted Berrigan." "Ken & Anne" are Ken & Anne Mikolowski. During this period, Ken, the renowned poet, publisher & academic; & his late wife Anne, noted artist & collaborator; were the proprietors of the legendary Alternative Press in Detroit. Berrigan was published by the Press & must have provided this inscription & signature during a visit there with his friends & colleagues, the Mikolowskis. An outstanding Berrigan collectible rarity with important association & provenance. In near-fine condition with only moderate rubbing to front, back covers & spine; mild wear & tiny bumps at all edges & corners of same; several vertical creases along length of spine; a few short, faint creases on surfaces of front, back covers; a short outward bend at & near upper right corner of front cover echoing through page leaves & upper left corner of back cover (inward); very mild rubbing, spotting & scratching at edges of text block.
