Transit No. 21

Coventry, England: The Beat Scene Press, 2008. First Printing. Stapled Wrappers. A simply invaluable issue of Transit magazine from Kevin Ring's The Beat Scene Press, issue No. 21 kicks off with a beautiful elegiac ode addressed to Jack Kerouac by poet & countercultural icon Ed Sanders. This is followed by an absolutely outstanding erudite essay from Editor Kevin Ring. Ring chooses Yugen Magazine as his subject and draws a cohesive, complete chronological history worthy of its own solo publication. He traces the origins and evolution of the magazine, started by Leroi & Hettie Jones in 1958, & emphasizes their presence as central organizing figures whose publication & sphere of influence came to represent a diverse confluence of committed, alternative writers. Also included is an excerpt from David Meltzer's excellent book "When I Was A Poet" (City Lights Pocket Poets No. 60), followed by pieces from Jack Hirschman, Dan Fante, & Barry Gifford. Book in very fine condition with only slightest shelfwear along fine-edges of front cover & slightest rubbing to front, back cover. Very Fine. [Item #2698]
