[Item #2741] Selected Writings 1962-1971. Joe Brainard.

Selected Writings 1962-1971

New York, NY: The Kulchur Foundation, 1971. First Softcover Edition. Softcover. A rare early collection of writings by Joe Brainard (1942-1994), the cult writer & artist associated with the New York School but who was really "beyond category" to borrow Duke Ellington's phrase. A treasure-trove of prose-poems, prose, diary entries & even favorite quotes. Large-format softcover in sewn binding. From the library of Ken & Ann Mikolowski, the founders of Detroit's legendary Alternative Press, who were acquainted with Brainard & published many Beat/Black Mountain/New York School writers. There are three blank paper bookmarks which we have retained where they were found, perhaps keys to what the Mikolowskis found most significant in this volume. An essential Brainard collectible with important association. In near-fine condition with only sunning to spine-side & upper margins of front cover, spine & spine-side margin of back cover; mild wear, creases & bumps at all edges & corners; very slight loss of surface color at lower right corner of front cover. Interior very fine except for very small bumps at lower & esp. upper corners of most page leaves. Near Fine. [Item #2741]
