Sparrow 14 -- Inside Out: Notes on the Autobiographical Mode

Los Angeles, CA: Black Sparrow Press, 1973. First Printing. Pamphlet in Stapled Wrappers. "SPARROW will appear monthly. It will print poetry, fiction, essays, criticism, commentaries & reviews. Each issue will present the work of a single author. The poet is prophet." So says the cover of Sparrow 14, which features "Inside Out" by Robert Creeley, "a lecture first given at the State University of New York at Buffalo's Center for Media Study as part of the Buffalo Conference on Autobiography in the Independent American Cinema." (ibid). This key essay is essential in understanding the highly-developed intellectual eccentricity of a thinker like Creeley, and serves to illuminate oft-ignored aspects of his practice in a matter of such critical assistance it is peculiar that the essay has not been sought out and pored over by more independent and collegiate scholars alike. From the library of Ken & Ann Mikolowski, founders of Detroit's "Alternative Press," publishers of many Beat/New York School/Black Mountain-related authors. Pamphlet in very fine condition with only minor rubbing to front, back covers; slight bump-crease to top right-hand corner of front cover; tiny spot to near bottom of front cover at middle right; moderate rusting and minor bleeding at staples. Very Fine. [Item #2750]
