Aptos, CA: Jazz Press, 1986. First Edition. Stapled Wrappers. Inscribed & signed by Judith Minty to James Perrizo. A large-format booklet with the single title prose-poem by Judith Minty, the acclaimed Michigan poet & educator. With (uncredited) front cover illustration evoked by the first lines of the poem: "In her backyard, the flowering crab tree:/first memory, that pink/froth of blossoms..." Unstated, but certainly a first edition-first printing. On the title page, Minty has hand-inscribed, signed & dated: "For Jim Perrizo/This connection/in Michigan, with Diane/in Lansing, 1/2-way/between New Era/+ West Bloomfield/Best/(signed) Judith Minty/August 11, 1990." James Perrizo (1944-2006) was a devoted collector & Beat Generation scholar who at one time was the assistant to Edie Parker, Jack Kerouac's former wife. "Diane" is undoubtedly Diane Wakoski, the esteemed poet & a contemporary of Minty who resides in East Lansing, MI where she taught at Michigan State University. Perrizo knew Wakoski & intensively collected her works. West Bloomfield is a Detroit suburb where Perrizo once resided. A desirable Minty collectible, greatly enriched by this very significant inscription & provenance. In very fine condition with only light rubbing mostly at margins of front & esp. back covers; tiny bumps at corners of same; a few short, faint creases near lower right corner of back cover. Interior very fine with only tiny bumps at lower corners of page leaves; thin line of ink smudging at top edge of pg. 11 which is likely a flaw as issued. Very Fine. [Item #2822]
