Broadside Flyer for "Beat Dreams and Plymouth Sounds" Event

Plymouth, UK: Plymouth Arts Center, 1987. Single Sheet. A broadside-flyer (14" x 8&1/2") announcing the "Beat Dreams and Plymouth Sounds" event at the Plymouth Arts Centre in Plymouth, UK during June 6-7, 1987 (no year stated, but our research indicates that year with certainty). Subtitled "A celebration of Jack Kerouac and the Beat Generation through literature, film and Jazz," this event featured Carolyn Cassady (1923-2013), Neal Cassady's widow & memoirist who was "...a key figure in many of Kerouac's books" as guest of honor; a performance by legendary musician Slim Gaillard (1916-1991), "A part of Beat history and one of the great entertainers of our day" who is referred to by Kerouac in On the Road; Gerald Nicosia, who a few years before this event had published his seminal critical biography of Kerouac, Memory Babe (1983); & others including British writers such as Jim Burns. With large reproduction of a well-known vintage photograph of road buddies Cassady & Kerouac circa 1951 on recto; three smaller images of Gaillard, Kerouac with Neal Cassady, & Carolyn Cassady on verso. A rare & fascinating piece of Beat-related ephemera. In very fine condition with three neat vertical creases where originally folded into quarters; tiniest bumps at upper & lower corners of first panel recto/last panel verso; a few very short, faint creases on surfaces. Currently mounted on stiff board, in protective shrinkwrap. Will be shipped carefully re-folded as originally issued. Very Fine. [Item #2842]
