Poster for "Acid Mantra or Rebirth of a Nation"

San Francisco, CA: North American Ibis Alchemical Co., 1968. First Printing. Single Sheet. A poster (approx. 20&3/4" x 27&5/8") promoting the original 1968 release of the experimental psychedelic film by "Humble" Ben Van Meter. According to Van Meter's introduction to his website, he was active in San Francisco "...during the legendary sixties as a creator of underground, experimental art films and lightshows which he and other artists put on at the early Fillmore Auditorium, the Avalon Ballroom and later in other venues. The films I made during the time were projected as part of the light show as well as a library of about 3000 slides. Many of these were my original photographs and collages. My films and slides are slated to be featured in San Francisco at the de Young Museum's 2017 Summer of Love 50th Anniversary exhibit..." The film being promoted here, "Acid Mantra or Rebirth of a Nation," is described in a sub-title as "Ex-Spirit-Mental Cinema in Three Parts......I The World is Coming/II Lila/ III Make Love Not War or Brown Rice." A collage of psychedelic images, most or all presumably stills from the film, include Van Meter himself in a classic hippie pose; Allen Ginsberg in the splendor of his beaded Summer-of-Love phase; & LSD guru Timothy Leary smiling with a flower above his ear. A bold, quintessential & very rare relic of the Haight's Height, so to speak. In very fine condition with only miniscule edge & corner wear; otherwise substantially mint.
