San Francisco, CA: Tea Lautrec Litho, 1978. First Printing. Single Sheet. A poster (approx. 14&5/8" x 21&1/8") announcing & promoting the legendary Tribal Stomp concert event held at the Greek Theatre in Berkeley, CA during October 1, 1978. The event was presented by Chet Helms & his promotional organization, The Family Dog. Helms (1942-2005) was at the very center of the 1960s San Francisco countercultural ferment which culminated in the 1967 "Summer of Love." Among many other important accomplishments that defined an era, he brought together & managed Big Brother & the Holding Co., the seminal psychedelic band initially featuring Janis Joplin. That group performed at this event about a decade after the hippie heyday, along with Paul Butterfield Blues Band, Canned Heat, Country Joe (McDonald) & the Fish, & other signature sixties bands. Also present were poets who defined the Beat Generation, the San Francisco Renaissance & were bridges to the later explosive creativity of the sixties era & beyond, including Allen Ginsberg; Michael McClure & Diane di Prima. All of the above & more are listed on this poster, designed by the acclaimed underground comix master Stanley Mouse. Also featuring a photograph of the "Tribe" of performers by Herb Green. An outstanding relic of an early reunion of the heart of psychedelic San Francisco. In rarely very fine condition with only a few faint creases at & near upper & side edges; otherwise practically pristine.
