The Ballad of the Skeletons

New York, NY: Mercury Records/Mouth Almighty Records, 1996. First Edition. CD in Case. A recording by Allen Ginsberg of three versions of his title poem, along with "Amazing Grace" (another of his poems, not the traditional spiritual hymn), set to music performed by stellar musician/composers including Phillip Glass, Lenny Kaye & Paul McCartney. Published in July of 1996, this is one of the latest works issued by the founding father of the Beat Generation, less than nine months before his death. While the title poem is an exemplary, angry political jeremiad, there is a macabre poignancy with the theme & image of skeletons when one considers how close the Beat-&-Beyond icon was to becoming one. With reproductions of Indian skeleton illustration on front cover of booklet; 1953 photograph of New York City scene by Ginsberg with his handwritten caption on back cover of booklet; late image of the poet on back cover of case. An important Ginsberg & co. collectible. Disc appears to be in very fine condition. Booklet in very fine condition with only a few very short, faint creases on surfaces. Case in very fine condition with only slightest wear & a few light scratches on clear plastic surface esp. one long, angled scratch along mid-upper area of rear panel. Very Fine. [Item #2861]
