Hymns of St. Bridget

New York, NY: Adventures in Poetry, 1974. First Printing. Stapled Sheets. Signed by Bill Berkson to Ken & Ann Mikolowski, Founders of Detroit's Visionary "Alternative Press." Another undisputed collaborative classic of Frank O'Hara, "Hymns of St. Bridget" is a refulgent collection of poems, all imbued with O'Hara's signature combination of wit, warmth & candor. Issued by Adventures in Poetry in 1974, this is a signature "New York" production, featuring art by Larry Rivers, poetry by O'Hara and Bill Berkson, and publication by an organization essentially comprised of friends of the poets. Even more true to the New York spirit is the association delineated by Bill Berkson's warm signature on the title page to Ken & Ann Mikolowski, founders of Detroit's "Alternative Press," publishers of many "Beat Generation/Black Mountain/New York School" authors. Ken & Ann were close friends of Bill Berkson and his contemporaries, including such prolific luminaries as Kenward Elmslie and Joe Brainard. Signed in bright red felt-pen ink and enclosed by a cartoon "thought bubble," Berkson's contemporary signature reads: "Love to / Ken & Ann! / Bill / 4/21/75." Book in fine-very fine condition with only slight rubbing to front, back covers; minute nicks, scuffing & spotting on isolated spots at same; minor bumps, shelf-wear to spine-edge just left of staples; bump to top left-hand corner of front cover. Fine-Very Fine. [Item #2927]
