Beat Scene No. 86 (Summer 2017)
Coventry, England: Beat Scene Press, 2017. First Printing. Stapled Wrappers. Beat Scene Issue No. 86 is another expectably outstanding issue in the celebrated & long-running series from Kevin Ring's Beat Scene Press. The issue begins with an interview of Roy Pennington, brother of Jim Pennington of Aloe's Books (publisher of the William S. Burroughs classic "White Subway" and more), that discusses Roy's publication of "Mayfair Academy Series More or Less," in 1973. The Pennington brothers may be the only set of siblings ever to publish William Burroughs, and all the more interesting that they both individually pioneered their endeavors. Following that is a fiery and forceful interview with Snyder, where the poet, then aged 51, expounds upon the misconceptions of spirituality and aboriginal culture and how they need to be redressed. Also included is a great interview of Michael McClure on Bruce Conner, a typically scholastic article on Charles Olson, an informal 1958 "interview" of Kenneth Rexroth by Jerome Rothenberg and David Antin, a feature on Kerouac in 1960 and more. As New. [Item #2948]
