Pat Hearn Gallery Exhibition Catalog (Burroughs Condo: Collaborations 1988-1996)

New York, NY: Pat Hearn Gallery, 1997. First Printing. Stapled Wrappers. In 1997 this fine rarity, featuring the collaborative work of William S. Burroughs and artist George Condo, was printed by the Pat Hearn Gallery in support of an exhibition of the work they executed together between 1988-1996. This title features a selection of full-color reproductions of work produced by the tandem during Condo's six visits to Lawrence, Kansas between 1988-1996. The book begins with an exceptionally informative essay by Edward Adler of NYU, who has long championed the work of Beat & Beat-related writers & artists. During Condo's tenure as an expatriate in France, he located Brion Gysin, who subsequently introduced him to WSB. Burroughs and Condo executed a remarkable amount of work together, taking place "...over an eight year period, during which they met for six painting sessions and produced 74 pieces of art." Condo memorably recalls this anecdote near the introductory essay's conclusion: "Every afternoon about four o'clock we would pour a drink, pull up a couple of chairs and talk about the project. William loved to look at the work, to talk about art. Years before he had given away his TV saying he preferred to watch paintings." This item is from the collection of Jim McCrary, a poet & educator who resides in Lawrence Kansas, where he was a friend & associate of WSB during his later years; a member of Burroughs Communications led by Grauerholz. Book in very fine condition with only minute rubbing; a few tiny bumps to front cover; minor rubbing to back cover, esp. at top right, bottom right, and bottom left corners of same; slight shelf-wear to fine-edges. Very Fine. [Item #2984]
