Mishaps, Perhaps with: More Mishaps

San Francisco, CA: City Lights Books, 1966 / 1969 (1968). First Edition, Second Printing / Second Printing. Softcover. Offered here in a bundle package are two classic Beat works from Carl Solomon, dedicatee of Allen Ginsberg's celebrated "Howl & Other Poems." A note of bibliographical specificity: most internet sellers' descriptions of Solomon's first title, "Mishaps, Perhaps" claim it as a "first edition," because a second printing is not listed on the copyright page. According to Ralph Cook's authorized "City Lights Books: A Descriptive Bibliography," true first printings of "Mishaps, Perhaps" were softcovers in sewn binding. All subsequent printings were perfect bound. From what we have seen from other sellers online, no one has made this demarcation clear to the customer. Also bundled with Solomon's first book is his follow-up, "More Mishaps," first published in 1968 and already into its second printing (a copy of which is offered here) by 1969. Solomon's work was celebrated by his contemporaries, especially at the dawn of the Beat Generation, as Solomon himself relates and laments in "Mishaps, Perhaps." These two books are deserving of greater scholarly inquiry, and do stand on their own literary merit. Both titles in very good condition with minor rubbing to front, back covers; slight discoloration at upper right-hand corner of front cover from where a sticker used to be (no residue apparent); moderate shelf-wear throughout; horizontal crease at spine-edge from reading use; a small chipping section occurs at the bottom right-hand corner of the back cover of both titles, slightly more pronounced on "Mishaps, Perhaps" yet still does not affect text. Very Good. [Item #2985]
