Rub Out The Word (Blank Notebook). William S. Burroughs, Brion Gysin.

Rub Out The Word (Blank Notebook)

Los Angeles, CA: Los Angeles County Museum of Art, 1996. First Printing. Spiral Bound. A blank spiral notebook sold at the acclaimed 1996 exhibition at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, "Ports of Entry: William S. Burroughs and the Arts." With reproduction on clear plastic front cover of an untitled collaborative artwork by WSB & Brion Gysin, "Rub Out The Word," circa 1965, which appeared in their co-written book, The Third Mind (the very namesake of our enterprise!) on pg. 33. From the collection of Jim McCrary, a poet & educator who has long resided in Lawrence, Kansas where he was a friend & associate of WSB during his later years. Many of the items we acquired from McCrary, probably including this, were handled or even given to him by WSB- there is a thin, part-circular stain of dried liquid (coffee? nightcap?) on front cover that could be easily removed, but we're keeping it there for purchaser to keep or remove. It could be from WSB himself, or in his presence. A very cool WSB rarity to inspire your muse between the covers, with significant association & provenance. In very fine condition with only very light rubbing & wear to front clear & back black plastic covers (not effecting front cover illustration); stain noted above on lower mid-left area of front cover without damage to illustration. Interior very fine, substantially mint with white blank, unlined page leaves. Very Fine. [Item #2991]
