This number of the venerable literary journal famously edited by George Plimpton includes a portfolio with reproductions of photographs by Beat Generation founding father Allen Ginsberg, including his trademark hand-written captions in margins below the images, entitled "Cosmopolitan Greetings." The year after this issue (1994), Ginsberg would publish a volume with the title poem of the same name, composed in 1986. The subjects of the photos include authors James Baldwin, William S. Burroughs, Jim Carroll, Ken Kesey & others; as well as the legendary publisher Barnery Rossett. This issue also includes an interview with poet William Stafford conducted by William Young; another interview of author Diana Trilling conducted by Patricia Bosworth; "Burning the Days," a section from James Salter's then-forthcoming memoir; the poem "Blue Glide" by Stephen Yenser (winner of the Review's B.F. Conners Poetry Prize for 1993) & much more. With front cover-spine reproduction of artwork by William Pene Du Bois, contemporary ads, notes on contributors, etc. A very significant Ginsberg & general literary collectible. In fine condition with only very mild rubbing & scratching to front, back covers & spine; very minor edgewear & tiny bumps at edges & corners of same; light rubbing & scratching at edges of text block esp. top & bottom edges.
