Prague Writers' Festival (Festival spisovatelu Praha) Program

ISBN: 8023902598
Prague, Czech Republic: PWF, 2003. First Printing. Softcover. This program from the 2003 Prague Writers' Festival features Beat-&-Beyond prophet William S. Burroughs on its front cover, and is also magnanimously dedicated to WSB on the very first page (which also includes the program schedule for the Festival). Under the dedication lies this quote from Burroughs: "We don't report the news. We write it." While the program features short blurb-biographies on a few of the writers attending the Conference that year, its pages are largely dedicated to Burroughs. The book contains a trove of interviews and a few written recollections of WSB, including a short excerpt of Jack Kerouac's "On the Road," and Paul Bowles' classic "Burroughs in Tangier" piece. Among the interviews are an interview with WSB conducted in London in 1969; an interview from New York in 1981; an interview from Toronto in 1987, and an excerpt of a Burroughs' piece published in the Transatlantic Review from 1963. All of these selections are additionally presented bilingually in Czech after the English section of the book ends. See Shoaf, Section IV, No. 270, pg. 198. From the collection of Jim McCrary, a poet & educator who has long resided in Lawrence, Kansas, where he was a friend & associate of WSB; a member of Burroughs Communications led by James Grauerholz. Book in fine condition with moderate rubbing to front, back covers; minute shelf-wear to all fine-edges; publisher's glue stuck to spine-edge of book (see picture). In pictures it seems as if the spine itself is ripped, but it is actually remainder glue from the printer of this book and could be cleaned if carefully executed. We have decided to leave that to the prospective buyer of the item to preserve its integrity as we initially received it and to offer that choice to this special collectible's future owner. Very Fine. [Item #3011]
