Airplanes. Tom Clark.

Essex, England: Once Books, 1966. First Printing. Stapled Wrappers. Signed & Inscribed by Poet/Biographer Tom Clark. The first published work by the esteemed late poet and later biographer of Jack Kerouac, Charles Olson and Ed Dorn, "Airplanes" was (as the book's inscription relates) "...typed...on stencils & cranked the mimeograph myself @ (sic) U. of Essex -- Colchester -- 1966) (my testbook)." A poet-printer product of the mid-late stages of the Mimeograph Revolution, Tom Clark's "Airplanes" (with introduction by longtime friend, the controversial minimalist poet Aram Saroyan) already intimates the kind of amicable wit often exhibited by the associates he later became known alongside (the "2nd Gen. 'NY School'" cadre). It is a poet's first book, to be sure, yet as essential in the development and understanding of Clark's poetry as any of his other more mature or more esteemed publications. From the collection of Ken & Ann Mikolowski; founders of Detroit's visionary "Alternative Press," close friends and publishers of many Beat/"New York"/Black Mountain-affiliated authors. Book in very fine condition with only slightest shelf-wear to fine-edges. Very Fine. [Item #3102]
